Jamari is one of our 2023 Calico Callenge participants working on our Talawa projects. He started participating earlier this year, and was formally accepted in June. He has been collaborating with other participants and mentors on his various GitHub pull requests.

I’m Jamari McFarlane from Jamaica, a participant in the 2023 Calico Challenge, and a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the University of the West Indies Mona.
I began programming during my early high school years when I discovered Python. Back then, I spent a lot of time coding simple console programs, solving programming challenges, and running automation scripts on any site that would allow me to. As time went on, my curiosity led me to explore other areas of this field, ultimately sparking my interest in web development.
Web development soon became my calling, and my desire to excel at it continued to grow. I soon found myself immersed in numerous web projects and often experimenting with the most interesting features of emerging technologies. It didn’t take long for me to develop an eagerness to step foot into the realm of professional development, and the Calico Challenge provided the perfect avenue for me to do just that, for which I’m extremely grateful.
Away from coding, you’ll usually find me involved in some kind of sporting activity or fully immersed in the world of online chess-playing, watching, or discussing games. Alternatively, I might be exploring the depths of Quora or listening to hours of songs on YouTube.
